In a response to a message, I wanted to see if I could help others understand some of the research on ketogenic diets and insulin resistance. Vegans assert that the animals fats make insulin resistance worse, but the science is obviously not on their side. Most of my misconception videos, I try to detail the science, but for this topic, I made an analogy. For this analogy, I used a cattle yard and the obnoxious smell as being analogous to the overwhelming refined carbs present in the Standard American Diet. Most people when assaulted by the smell immediately would have response to the smell. That response is the insulin release. Over time, the person eventually needs to be assaulted with new more horrible smells and might eventually not be bothered at all. It is at that point they become diabetic in the analogy. Here&#8217;s the research: ccjm.org &#8220;Do very-low-carbohydrate diets cause insulin resistance? Despite concern that very-low-carbohydrate diets, especially if high in saturated fat, might lead to insulin resistance, the link between saturated fat and insulin resistance is tenuous. Further, data from three recent studies that used the insulin clamp technique indicate that very-low-carbohydrate diets do not have an adverse effect on glucose metabolism or insulin resistance. Collectively, these studies indicate that very-low-carbohydrate diets alter the effects of insulin on oxidative and nonoxidative glucose disposal, favoring storage of glucose as glycogen in muscle. <p>It is known to many that proper diet, regular exercise, and utmost discipline are the basic ingredients in achieving balanced and healthy living. But more often than not, people who are either obese of morbidly obese do not adhere to these guiding principles on how to achieve those weight loss goals and often experience severe results.&#13;</p>
<p>ALL ABOUT LOW FAT DIETS&#13;</p>
<p>Through the years, statistics continues to show that 95 percent of people who try traditional diets fail. These studies also show that improper dieting have caused miserable suffering to those have tried it because they underwent drastic food restriction and deprivation. Aside from the depression caused by failed diet and failure of short-term weight loss goal, these people have also developed chronic illnesses.&#13;</p>
<p>One of major reasons why people become obese is that they have high blood cholesterol levels due to fat intake. If you want to achieve your desired weight, make sure that you familiarize yourself first with fats. Basically, there are two major types of dietary fat—the saturated and unsaturated fat. Saturated fats may lead to the increase of cholesterol in the blood while eating unsaturated fats or oils can help decrease cholesterol levels. Fats are also categorized as &#8220;low fat&#8221; which has 20 to 30 percent of calories derived from fats and &#8220;very low fat&#8221; that has 0 to 19 percent of calories from fats.&#13;</p>
<p>Experts say that fat has more than twice the calories as the same amount of protein or carbohydrate this is why a good low fat diet can be helpful in the reduction of weight gain and lowering blood cholesterol as well. Over the years, health authorities and experts agree low fat diets are the best because these enable people to control over weight through lowered fat consumption.&#13;</p>
<p>The most typical low fat diets include the Ornish Diet, the Pritikin Diet, Hip and Thigh Diet, Scarsdale Diet, F-Plan Again Diet, Mayo Clinic Plan, Rice Diet, Weight Watchers Diet, Jenny Craig Diet, The 3-Hour Diet, and Anne Collins Diet Program that offer different low fat diets.&#13;</p>
<p>Here are some ways to eat less fat:&#13;</p>
<p>1. Try eating fewer fried foods. Instead of eating fried foods, opt for grilled, boiled, baked, poached, steamed or dry roasted foods.&#13;</p>
<p>2. Stop adding butter, lard, and margarine to food while preparing and cooking. Also, spare yourself from spreads.&#13;</p>
<p>3. Cut down on visible fat from meat.&#13;</p>
<p>4. Eat less fatty meat products like sausages, burgers, meat pies, and pasties.&#13;</p>
<p>5. Consume semi-skimmed or skimmed milk instead of drinking whole milk.&#13;</p>
<p>6. Try eating low-fat or reduced-fat varieties of cheeses.&#13;</p>
<p>7. Eat lesser high-fat foods like crisps, chocolates, cakes, pastry products, biscuits, and pizzas.&#13;</p>
<p>8. Drink low-fat or natural yogurts or creams.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The Yo Yo<br /></strong>I have to face it.  I have struggled with my weight all my life and I really didn&#8217;t like it.  Oh the getting there part was fun and easy, but when I looked in the mirror, ye gads, what a sight.  When I was younger my looks played a large part in motivating me to slim down and try to stay that way, but as I got older health began to overtake physical appearance as the number one motivation. </p>
<p><strong>How I Got Results</strong><br />Dieting is a very individual effort.  I have found that what works for some people won&#8217;t work as well for others.  Yes, every diet plan will work if you follow it to the letter, but not every plan fits with our lifestyles or mental attitudes.  For instance, I hate being hungry so diets that leave me constantly hungry do not work with the exception of the hCG diet.  You can read my story on that experience here.  It worked because the reducing was fast and dramatic, but at times the cravings were tremendous.  The second of my &#8220;best&#8221; diet plans is low carbohydrate diet plans.  Low carbohydrate diet plans work for me because I can eat a lot.  Restrictions are based on carbohydrates but not fat and protein.</p>
<p><strong>Who Benefits from Low Carbohydrate Diet Plans?<br /></strong>Dr. Atkins was the person who made this type of dieting popular and he explained that when you reduce your carbohydrates (the body&#8217;s natural source  of energy) below a useable level your body will look for another energy source and that will be from your fat.  And it works!  It really is a good way for you to diet if you tend to have high blood sugar.  When I went on a low carbohydrate diet plan I really felt full of energy and pumped to succeed.</p>
<p><strong>My Experience<br /></strong>When I first started out it was great!  I had omelettes,  and proteins until I was satified.  And I had all the mayo I wanted.  I don&#8217;t know why I like mayonnaise on every thing protein but I do.  In my opinion there should be trophy awarded to the inventor of mayonnaise&#8211;except for the name which should have been something along the line of&#8211;really good white stuff. Sorry, I got sidetracked.</p>
<p><strong>As Time Passed<br /></strong>My first three days on the low carbohydrate diet plan saw me drop three pounds.  I lost another two during the rest of the week for a total of 5 pounds.  Wow, at that rate I would fit into my crushed velvet leisure suit for my 39th high school class reunion.  Well, as with all diets, things slowed down.  In week two I lost only three pounds and I began to dream about breakfast cereal&#8211;go figure.  I wanted carbs, but I resisted.  Mayonnaises began looking like anemic grease and if I saw another egg I felt I was going to hurl it before I even ate it.  One of the problems was that I was a vegetarian.  It turns out that it is a much easier diet when you eat animal products.</p>
<p><strong>Two to Three Pounds</strong> <br />I did manage to lose two to three pounds a week through out the diet and I learned a lot about nutrition during that time.  I felt my way through this process the first time but I bought a low carbohydrate diet eating plan the second time around and it saved me a lot of hassle.  There are several plans available.  You could get Dr Atkins book and read it or you can use Google to research products.  There are several online choices including Weight Watchers and Strip That Fat.  Any of these choices need to be researched carefully so that you can find the one that fits you best.</p>
